Can our electric adjustable beds be used by someone with a pacemaker? Icare Medical Group
Tested to IEC 60601-2-52 and powered by low-voltage 24V DC systems, our beds meet medical EMC standards with no known pacemaker interference in normal use.
Our electric adjustable beds are designed and tested to the international medical standard IEC 60601-2-52, which covers both electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). This means the beds are suitable for use in healthcare settings where sensitive devices, such as pacemakers, may be present.
The bed’s actuator and control systems are Class I (earthed) or Class II (double-insulated) medical electrical devices. They operate on low-voltage DC power (typically 24V) supplied through an external power supply, and are designed to minimise electromagnetic emissions in accordance with IEC 60601-1-2.
These features significantly reduce any risk of interference with implanted medical devices. Beds meeting these standards are routinely used in hospitals and aged-care environments where pacemaker users are present.
However, because pacemakers can differ in type and sensitivity, we always recommend that users consult their cardiologist or pacemaker manufacturer for personalised advice before use.
